MUC School of Science

School Overview & Development History

The MUC School of Science was established in July 2007. Its predecessor was the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Minzu University of China, which was established in June 1978. Through nearly 30 years of development, the major of the Faculty of Science has been engaged in work related to the research, design, application, development and manufacturing of information and computing science, statistics, applied physics, optoelectronic information science and engineering, new materials and other fields and serves as an integrated base for senior talents.

The MUC School of Science currently has 6 undergraduate majors, namely Information and Computing Science, Statistics, Applied Statistics, Applied Physics, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Nanomaterials and Technology. There are 2 first-level master's degree programs in mathematics and statistics, and one in biology. There is a master's degree in physics and three master's degrees in optical engineering, subject teaching (mathematics), and subject teaching (physics). The school has two public teaching departments: The Department of Information and Computing Science, Department of Statistics, Department of Applied Physics, Department of Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Department of Advanced Mathematics, and University Physics Experiment Center. The research institute has an international joint photonics technology research and development center, a Chinese minority data center, a research center for the development and utilization of natural resources in ethnic areas, and a mathematics education institute.

School Focus, Beliefs & Development Objectives

The MUC School of Science insists that ethnic minority areas and ethnic minorities themselves should work proactively to cultivate high-quality rational workers with innovative spirits and innovative abilities and strive to reform the teaching content, innovate the curriculum system and teaching methods, and pay attention to students' professional knowledge, practical abilities as well as scientific and cultural qualities, etc. Comprehensive and coordinated development of all aspects is needed. From 1978 to 2014, the school has trained more than 5,000 graduates originating from ethnic areas across the country, thereby having a student base covering the entire country and more than 40 ethnic groups. In recent years, the proportion of undergraduate students in the MUC School of Science who have completed postgraduate studies is close to 40%. More than half of the employed students are residing in the Beijing area.

Our Talent

The MUC School of Science has a high-quality faculty with a strong sense of ethics and dedication, rich teaching experience, and strong research capabilities. It has a total of 74 faculty members and 64 professional teachers, including senior-level instructors. There are 42 titles, 40 master's advisors, 51 doctoral degree holders, and 10 faculty that studies overseas. The MUC School of Science has formed five innovative research teams: “Study on Ethnic Minorities,” “Research on Science Compulsory Education in Ethnic Areas,” “Difference Equations,” “Photoelectric Devices and System Integration,” and “Natural Resources Development and Utilization in Ethnic Areas.” To support the school's development, it has more than 4,000 square meters of specialized laboratories full of equipment, with a total value of more than 40 million yuan. The experimental teachers with excellent experimental skills have laid a solid foundation for cultivating students' practical abilities and innovation capacity. At present, the school has undertaken more than 40 longitudinal research projects such as “973”, National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Fund, Ministry of Education, Personnel Department, and National Civil Affairs Commission, and published nearly 100 academic papers each year.
